The idea for this particular project was born from my personal contact with the texts of the author Chronis Missios, in which optimism and love for life, nature, and animals prevail. The publication titled "Life Pleasure Joy Death" is a personal editorial endeavor to visualize selected texts from the author's books. This idea stems from my personal interest in socio-historical content texts and my special appreciation and love for the author himself. Inspiration came from the literary aesthetic of the author, characterized by a continuous flow of text without particular punctuation and pauses, as well as his strong reference to nature and hope for life. The goal of this project is to create an experimental edition that conceptually captures the author's texts and shapes the worlds and human conditions he describes into a typographically poetic flow. The dialogue between texts and design will be achieved with the design decision to implement this edition in the form of a continuous flow, printed on a multi-fold single-sided accordion, which will be supported and framed by a packaging box, serving as the exhibition base for reading this art book. Chronis Missios' texts are characterized by a highly descriptive writing flow regarding landscapes, people, situations, and phenomena of social and emotional content. His love for life and nature constantly leads him to parallel his meanings with the behaviors of nature or animals. Through the study and decoding of his texts, it is observed that he often uses four words allegorically, which we can say characterize and unify large pieces of thought in his books: Life, pleasure, joy, death. These words also formed the title of my edition. Design-wise, this led to the decision to visualize the text into corresponding themes, which would discreetly alternate in the literary composition of the edition. The visualization of these themes was rendered using four basic colors. Blue symbolizes life, red pleasure, green joy, and black or collage death. Four mixed media design pieces were created for the conceptual visualization of the texts. The typographic approaches followed the standards of experimental poetry, the use of plant prints with black ink, the use of acrylic colors restricted symbolically to green, red, and blue, as well as the collage method using a personal archive of photographs and materials from magazines and Greek publications from the '60s to '80s. Clouds, rivers, people, and animals appear in the narrative of the edition and interact with Missios' texts. Exiled, black-and-white, within shadows and surrounded by the white space of the pages, the characters play a triple role. They personify the author, the reader, and my personal perspective.
