We were commissioned to design the poster and titles for Konstantina Kotzamani's surreal film, What Mary Didn't Know (2024). The design brief for both was to create a nostalgic, vintage, and minimal composition. Inspired by Magritte's "The Human Condition", we designed a poster that acts as a window to the film's sunsets and Mary's inner experience, playing on the concept of the malleability of our perceptions of reality. The poster we designed features a window to a soft pink gradient, a visual representation of Mary's internal world and the surreal sunset that envelops her reality. The design captures the delicate balance between the unknown and the deeply personal, reflecting the dreamy, romantic undertones of the film. It is a minimalist, vintage take on a film that explores the beauty, confusion, and romance of adolescence in a world blurred by fantasy. At its heart, What Mary Didn't Know sits on the boundary between magical realism and a teenage love story -one tinged with both innocence and uncertainty.
